Where do I Start My Direct Sales when in comes to online marketing?

Starting a business can be overwhelming enough but then you have to think about where to begin online. One of the questions I am asked daily is where to begin when it comes to creating an online presence for your business. When I first started marketing my business online, I made countless mistakes. I built two websites, spend thousands of dollars, got wrong advice, got ripped off and spent many hours crying in frustration. I made a promise that I would help others not make the same mistakes that I did. I wished that there were checklists and lists and information of where to begin. I couldn’t find anything at all which resulted in all those mistakes and tears. Now I will help you every step of the way.

When you first start your business, here are some of the first things that I suggest you do when you are ready to market full force.

Open an Email Account. This is one of the first things I tell every team member who joins my team. Open a separate email account that is different than your personal account. I strongly suggest Gmail. Gmail is a great choice because there is a wide variety of things you can do with it as you grow. They offer a ton of products that can be linked to your email account and it is very easy to set it up on your mobile phone even if you are using their applications.

Acquire a Domain Name. Whether you join a direct sales business or start your own home based business, having a domain for you or your business is very important when starting out online. Usually direct sales businesses will let you pay for a website and it has their own company link that you add personalization to such as http://www.wicklesselite.scentsy.us. Sometimes URLs that seem long to people make it very difficult for people to remember. You want a URL that people will associate you with. Something easy to remember. Instead the one listed above now links to www.Wicklesselite.com. Much easier to remember. Next You will need to acquire Web Hosting. Web hosting is a service you will need to purchase and it will allow you site to become LIVE on the web. Web hosting is a must have. It allows you to have complete control over the content of your website. If you do not purchase web hosting, then any content you provide on the website will be owned  by the free sites that you use. When you use free sites, they have the ability to shut your site down at any time. 

Social Media sites are next. First let’s set up a Facebook Fan Page. You must have a personal Facebook page to set up a Fan page for you business. Having a fan page to promote your site or blog is something that everyone who has a business must have. It allows you to market your business, your content and shows credibility. Next Let’s Do Twitter. Twitter is the little hidden secret in Direct Sales. So many consultants have a Twitter account but refuse to use it claiming that they don’t understand how it works. Twitter is the best way to meet new people, gain new connections and in turn drive new customers to your site and Facebook Fan page. It is an incredible communication tool. Simply go to Twitter.com and set up a new account using your new Gmail address.

Linked in is Next. Most people have a personal linked in account but do not realize that they can and should create a Linkedin Company page. Click on companies in the linked in tool bar once you log in and create a page for you business. This is another way to create your online presence.

Set up Google +. Google + is an incredible way to boost your online activity. You can set it up using your Gmail accounts. Now this platform may not be as popular as the others we have listed but being affiliated with Google, it is a great way of getting your business noticed.

Some Extras. Some other tasks that I always suggest new business owners to start with are Pinterest & Instagram. I know this list can be overwhelming when you first start. Once all this is done, you can start customizing everything. Don’t worry about that at first. Let’s just focus on getting everything set up.
