Twitter is a one of the greatest social media tools there is to promote your direct sales business to your target audience, however due to the desire of getting something in return of your efforts and the will to win; most people have gone wrong when using twitter as a core strategy in promoting themselves. The following are 10 mistakes listed as a way to understand how people are being misled by their eagerness on using twitter.

Mistake # 1 :  Adding multiple people to follow at the same time is not a good strategy to promote yourself on twitter. Twitter is a social media tool to interact with people with common thoughts and interests. If you accumulate too many individuals at one time it portrays and looks desperate in building relationships and connections on twitter. Always in bare mind that twitter is not a game of having the most numbers. It is the idea of having the most people you actually talk and connect with.

Mistake # 2: Most people who have a twitter account, use it as a tool to connect people with the same interests and thoughts, which they see a good connection for business purposes and they personally have known.  The problem is, some people continously just tweet personal thoughts instead of tweets of meaning and value such as quotes, jokes, links etc. Tweeting personal thoughts almost all of the time, will result in a profile that is not very popular.

Mistake #3:  Twitter posts are read by people and not by robots, so it is extremely crucial that your posts are balanced between personal tweets and other resources. Followers tend to follow and show interests if they know that they are following real people and not a ghost. For instance blending your business ideas with your personal thoughts has a significant impact to your profile promotion on twitter.

Mistake #4: Not having a Twitter ID that is designed to create and grow an individual’s network.  Part of that growth is to grab the attention of your followers and your target people. One factor of grabbing individual’s attention is to use an inviting twitter layout on your profile. Use a layout that matches your personality and professionalism. Take some time to make it perfect to see for your followers or create a layout with some styles.

Mistake #5: The biggest mistakes made by most of the twitter members is that they don’t use a unique twitter avatar on their profile. Uniqueness is very important to make a distinction from the other, if you trademark yourself as an individual. Most people who are using twitter discovered that using  a unique twitter avatar have seen a lot of improvements on their personal branding.

Mistake #6:  If you want to grab the attention of your followers and continue to have them follow you for a long time, refrain from tweeting about yourself and start tweeting about other people. Choose the personalities and topics that are catchy one to gain interest from your followers.

Mistake # 7: Using  auto direct messaging scripts is not something I advise to use because it is much harder to self brand you or your business.  It doesn’t make sense to people if you just rise suddenly into a conversation or thread to promote your services.

Mistake # 8: Using a thread to sell your service or products is a huge huge huge mistake. You might find that strange considering we are in the direct sales business but you have to not listen to your brain for a minute and do the exact opposite.  For instance, if you want to endorse your services and skills to people, create a good bio, attached a link of your blog or website and once you build relationships, suddenly the rest will fall into place.  Focus on creating a quality and good forum to start, to interact with people which would you like to do businesses with or have them join your team.

Mistake #9  The mistakes of not re-tweeting.   Re-tweeting a message from your follower(s) emphasizes that you are not only interested with their tweets but with their personal attributes as well. Your re-tweet reflects that they are smart and intelligent people with whom you enjoyed interacting with.

Mistake #10:  Last but not the least.  Following and interacting with people whom you think have a great potential to either do business with you or who can help you expand your self improvement in your life and in your business.  Following people may help them feel they are important that may result to follow you back.

Twitter if used correctly, can give you access to the world. Everyone is on twitter and many many have not heard of you or your business. Correct the following mistakes above and let me know how you do. I can’t wait to hear.
