Yes! I said it. Direct Sellers should use Facebook Live

I know there are a lot of platforms popping up, but if you are marketing your direct sales business online, it is important to use the platforms that will be the most popular with your target market. That means that sometimes, you will need to shift and change things around. Truth be told, many of direct sellers that I see may in fact be using Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, but even though they are “there” so to speak, they aren’t using it correctly. We, as business owners must be open minded and understand that new platforms are going to pop up daily. We must follow the crowd to stay relevant.  If our target marekt is communicating on Periscope, then we use Periscope. If its Instagram, we go there. Snapchat? Facebook Live?  We need to pay close attention to where our people are, or where they will be in the future.

Why Should You Use Facebook Live?

After attending Social Media Marketing World this April, it is still quite clear that Facebook is the “go to” platform. From our groups, to our events, to our business pages, it is the place that we access every single morning before we even open our email in most cases. Facebook Live is not a new platform; it is an addition to the Social Media monster.  It is our home. Our personal lives are on our personal page. Our businesses are on our business pages. Our teams are in our groups and our customers are in our events. Your people are on Facebook and for the most part almost all of them would rather not open a second app to see you, even if they really WOULD like to hear what you have to say.  I have seen many on the corporate side jump on to Periscope, and although I think it is amazing that they are keeping up with the trends, they too need to pay attention to what is the easiest and most trending platform among customers and even us, the consultant. Sooooo, the question…….

 What about Periscope?

Do I love Periscope? Absolutely! Will I still use it? Yes, but because I believe the majority of my fans and followers are on Facebook, I will honestly have to say, I can see Facebook Live becoming my preferred method for live streaming. This is for a few reasons.  First, the streams stay in the feed whether it is on your fan page, group or event. People can watch live or watch later but bigger than that, I don’t have to ask them to jump to another app. The minute you do, you can consider them gone.  Your fans and team members have already chose to follow you on Facebook and people want simple. It is way easier for consultants, customers and hostesses to see a live stream in their feed, then watch for notifications on another app.

But What Do I Talk About on Facebook Live?

Direct Sales Consultants really struggle with what to talk about if they decide to utilize one of the live streaming platforms. First and foremost, you must change your mindset. Now, this might blow some of you away, but you must STOP SELLING and start providing value to your audience. If you provide information that your people will love and enjoy, they will keep coming back for more. I see huge success with my coaching clients when this light bulb turns on. You must stop the sales pitch, stop the recruiting pitch, stop the company/product vomit. The second you start going in this direction, I promise you, people are tuning you out. It doesn’t matter if someone was selling a diamond for $1, the second the conversations feels like a sales pitch, you can consider yourself ignored.

Successful direct sales consultants are learning to brand themselves instead of their products and they are learning to provide value on all of the channels they choose online.  What does this mean? There are no sales flyers, no promo banners, no my director challenged me posts, no 24 hour sales pictures. Pages, Groups, Live Streams and Websites should be filled with tips, motivation, inspiration, videos, tricks and anything else that your audience would find useful. If you are selling home décor, talk about decorating ideas. If you are selling fragrance, tell your audience the top 10 fragrances for the season. If you are selling clothing, how about some fashion tips. If you are selling makeup, tell us the easiest ways to use contour. The possibilities are endless.  You must show your personality, give value and give people a reason to want to keep coming back for more. Truth be told, they want to be a part of your success. Now what a great way to show them but by live steaming

Facebook Live Ideas

So now that we got that down. I will repeat it again. You must provide value. Here are four ideas to get you started on Facebook Live:

  1. Lists and Steps. People love actionable lists and steps to accomplishing something. Give us your top 5 ways to _____________________. Best 10 Ways to use xyz product, or Top 5 products for the summer.
  2. Behind the scenes. Are you at your company convention? Leadership event? Home party? People love to see behind the scenes. Truth is, many people are nervous to start their own home business, so they love seeing what you do. What your day is like. What a party is like. This brings your fans and customers directly into your day. Share with them. Remember, keep the camera steady. People will tune out if you are moving all over the place.
  3. Questions and Answers. This is a great one for your team pages or even if your VIP groups. You could do an opportunity night where potential team members ask questions about joining. Team members can ask questions about leadership, a certain promotion or just basic 101 questions.
  4. The How To. It is always amazing to me that there are still so many people who haven’t heard of my particular products. Go Live on your Fan page and show your followers how to use certain products, how to make a recipe, how to apply your makeup, exercise tips, shake creation, skin care steps, fashion tips. I could go on and on.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to Facebook Live. From your customers, to your family, to your team, to your hostesses, everyone is already following you on Facebook. Why would you go anywhere else? The KEY to it all is providing value. With more and more LIVE streams popping up, if you are not providing value, then you will find your fans and followers hitting that dreaded UNFOLLOW button.

Sit down tonight and make a list of some possible Facebook Live ideas. It is time to just hit broadcast and go for it. If you need some support, come on over to our free community at . We will cheer you on and get you rockin.
