Blogging Tips for Direct Sales Consultants
When I first started my websites, I could have used all the blogging tips I could get. I really had no idea what I was doing but I quickly realized that if you want to set yourself apart from other direct sales consultants, then blogging or finding a platform where you have a voice is the way to do it. There are many reasons to start a blog but the main one is it is a fantastic way to reach out to current customers with product information, find new customers and even work with and recruit team members. Creating a personalized website and blogging on it regularly gives you an online personality. Rather than just posting sales flyers and marketing material, if done correctly, you can put out content that people find valuable. That content can help customers, other consultants and even hostesses based on the topics you choose to write about.
Most consultants do not see the value in a website or a blog or they simply do not know how to go about starting one. This is why we answer a lot of those questions in Social Super Group. Blogging is not just about writing and throwing up any article for the sake of doing it. It is strategic, so here are 5 of my ultimate blogging tips. 5 Ultimate Blogging Tips
1. Your blog should be attractive in it’s design and be easy to navigate. When a reader stumbles upon your blog, you want them to stay there and nose around…not bounce back out. Design, navigation and content is “key” to keep people there. Take your time and really put some thought into your blog’s design, color scheme, layout and additional features before opening it up for others to see. If you are building your site on your own with websites like Wix or Blogger, take your time. If you are having some one build you a Word press site, be sure you have a strategy session that points out exactly the look and feel that you want. When clients come to us wanting custom word press sites, we have a detailed questionnaire that they fill out and ask them to find 3-5 websites that they like the look of for motivation. It is important that your blog is a reflection of you, your personality and definitely your message.
2. When publishing each blog post, it is important to provide factual, interesting and non-spammy information to those who read your blog. In other words, even though it’s your business blog, your published posts need to educate your readers about your company and/or products. You can advertise your business and write about the products you sell, but they shouldn’t be blatant, in-your-face sales ads. When writing about the products you sell, give your readers a reason to purchase them by talking about their special features, give ideas on how they can use them, why they would make a great gift, etc. Since your customers can’t smell, see or feel the product up close and personal, your details need to be in-depth, accurate and given in a manner that encourages them to purchase the product. If you are demonstrating a product, you might want to consider adding a video with in your blog. This again allows people to get to know your and hear your voice.
Your blog should contain product information posts as well as valuable content that readers use. Create contain that may help customers, current consultants, potential consultants and even hostesses on preparing for a party or why they should consider joining. If your blog posts are only long formed marketing ads, your target market will not return. People do not want to waste their time reading long ads.
3. You need to be consistent with your blogging efforts to keep readers coming back for more updates and to help with organic search engine back end traffic. When we say consistent, you should be publishing new blog posts about twice a week. If you are going to be taking any time off, pre-write your blog posts and schedule them to automatically post while you are gone. Word press is amazing for this. You can set up the blog post, proof read it, and then schedule it to post just the way you would as if you were in the office. Having a monthly content schedule makes this even easier because you know what you have to have ready ahead of time.
Your blog posts should be a minimum of 300+ words, include proper keyword links to your products on your consultant website, links to some outside webpage and one or two photographs that are in reference to whatever you are discussing with in the post.
4. Once you have your blog up and running, you will be responsible for advertising your blog to others, because people will NOT magically find you. Let all of your friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors, customers, party hosts, team members, etc. know about your blog and we recommend that you get business cards printed up with just your blog’s information printed onto them. Hand them out to everyone you know! Once I publish a blog post, I then have strategic steps as to how I market each. I publicize the post on all of my social media platforms in a drip format (multiple times a day the first day and then tappering off), participating in blog reviews or giveaways with review bloggers, posting in my groups and doing a video which coincides with the post to get the word out in the community.
5. Build your mailing list within your blog and send out a weekly email so that people continue to return to your page. Most direct sales consultants are not verse in online marketing and do not take advantage of their email list. Your email list IS your business. If you can get people onto your email list and then use that list to provide valuable information that your followers will read, they will return to your blog. Make a weekly or monthly personalized newsletter something you do consistently. I am not just talking about the one that your company sends out for you. Use services like Mailchimp or Aweber to create and send a newsletter that provides information and thanks your customers for supporting your business. People need to see your face and remember that you are still a consultant. When they see you and hear from you, you will create a loyal following and they will return to you website to hear what you are saying and see what you are doing. People love to be a part of another’s success. Don’t let those email addresses fall through the cracks. Use them to stay in contact with the people who want to do business with you.

These blogging tips are probably the most important and some of the first things I tell my clients when they train with me. Putting up a blog is one thing but putting up one with valuable content that people will come back for takes time and should not be rushed. Potential articles should be brain stormed and thought out carefully. Don’t just throw articles up for the sake of checking task off your to do list. Post information that people need and solve pain points. Showing your personality through your writing or video is how people will keep coming back to you. If you stay consistent, people will deem you as someone that they can trust with useful information.
